The ESP-F1 module is powered by the cost-effective ESP8266EX processor. In a compact package, the ESP8266EX integrates an industry-leading Tensilica L106 ultra-low-power 32-bit microcontroller with a 16-bit compressed instruction mode. It supports clock frequencies of 80 MHz and 160 MHz, as well as an RTOS.
The ESP8266EX provides complete Wi-Fi networking capabilities. It can operate independently or function as a slave device alongside an external host MCU. In standalone operation, it can boot directly from external flash memory. Its integrated high-speed cache helps improve system performance and optimize memory utilization.
The ESP8266EX can also function as a Wi-Fi adapter through SPI/SDIO or I²C/UART interfaces, allowing it to be incorporated into virtually any microcontroller-based design.
The ESP-F1 module supports the standard IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/e/i protocols and a complete TCP/IP protocol stack. It can add network connectivity to existing devices or be used to build a standalone network controller.

Notes:
- The module requires a 3.3 V DC power supply capable of delivering at least 500 mA.
- The maximum output current of the Wi-Fi module’s I/O is 12 mA.
- The NRST pin is active low, while the EN pin is active high.
- To enter firmware upgrade mode, hold GPIO0 low and then reset or power-cycle the module. To enter normal operating mode, hold GPIO0 high and then reset or power-cycle the module.
- Connect the Wi-Fi module’s RXD pin to the external MCU’s TXD pin, and connect the module’s TXD pin to the external MCU’s RXD pin.
