Choosing an AI recorder card: microphones, bone conduction, storage and battery life

Evaluate an AI recorder card by following the recording process: capturing sound, storing audio, transferring it to a phone and passing it to software services. Check each stage against the intended use, then assess whether the features and battery life are sufficient.

This article reviews the Gongdao AI recorder card’s stated specifications. It preserves the stated values and identifies inconsistent descriptions that need supplier confirmation. The specifications have not been verified by physical testing, and this article does not report physical tests of battery life, weight or recording quality.

Read the network description as a complete-device specification. Although the chip is labeled Wi-Fi 6, the specifications explicitly list 2.4 GHz. Support for 5 GHz still needs confirmation, and no measured upload speed is provided.

Test microphones and bone conduction in the intended setting

The “2 MIC + 1 bone conduction” description identifies different pickup components but does not explain each channel’s operating mode, switching behavior or role in the processing algorithm.

Component count does not prove beamforming support or guarantee clear recordings across all phone-call conditions. For face-to-face conversations, meetings or use attached to a phone, provide separate examples and request recordings in those settings.

Keep the original audio and record distance, background sound, placement and device settings. When comparing noise reduction, listen for complete speech, stable volume and whether background sound affects intelligibility. The general software algorithm description does not support a specific noise-reduction figure in decibels or a recognition accuracy claim.

Estimate recording time from storage

Ask whether eMMC and T card refer to alternative configurations or another arrangement, and which versions use 2 GB and 8 GB. Do not assume both are installed or add the listed options into a total capacity.

You also need the actual audio bitrate. For capacity planning:

Recording time (seconds) ≈ Capacity available for audio (bytes) × 8 ÷ Actual bitrate (bit/s).

Account for the file system, reserved space, recording format and variable bitrate. The estimate is not a guaranteed recording duration for this device. Record a known duration using the delivery firmware, read the file size and check the estimate through extended recording tests.

Interpret the 60-hour recording and 30-day standby claims

The 470 mAh capacity, 60 hours of continuous recording and 30 days of standby all come from the stated specifications. They do not state audio settings, wireless status, temperature or the battery discharge cutoff. Treat the durations as stated specifications pending acceptance tests.

Ask whether Bluetooth and Wi-Fi remain active during continuous recording, whether audio transfers at the same time, and how the battery test starts and ends. For standby, confirm whether the device stays connected to a phone and can start recording immediately from a button press.

Test local continuous recording, transfer after recording and the intended daily routine separately. A recording-only duration does not describe battery life for daily recording followed by phone synchronization.

Confirm AI features and App services separately

The stated specifications describe software services for domestic and international markets and distinguishes free from paid services. It does not fully specify transcription, summaries, translation, quotas or fees.

If the product will promise automatic meeting notes, ask the provider to define supported features, languages, output formats and quotas, then test sample audio. Chip and microphone specifications help assess the hardware but do not establish AI output quality.

Also confirm when and where audio leaves the device, when it is uploaded, and how users export and delete recordings. Check that these operations fit the intended recording workflow.

Resolve inconsistent dimensions and weight

The dimensions field contains both 86 × 55 × 4.4 mm and 86 × 58 × 4.4 mm, while device weight is listed as 230 g. Both dimensions cannot be the confirmed size of the same finished unit. Ask the supplier to verify the weight too; do not replace 230 g with a guessed value.

The product image is marked as a reference, with the final design following the customer’s ID. The specifications also list an aluminum alloy enclosure, a ring magnet and customizable branding. Obtain approved drawings before mechanical prototyping and confirm dimensions, net weight and magnetic construction on the actual sample.

Use one checklist for purchasing

Confirm recording scenarios and samples, audio format and file size, storage configuration, transfer workflow, battery test conditions, App service scope, and approved dimensions and weight. Use this list to check that quotations cover comparable configurations.
